JERUSALEM STRUCK BY GAZA ROCKETS
Jerusalem, 13 Ramadan 1435/11 July 2014 (MINA) – Sirens could be heard wailing in Jerusalem on Thursday evening followed by four loud explosions.
“Sirens heard in Jerusalem moments ago. People make their way to safe zones,” Israeli police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld wrote on Twitter, Anadolu Agency quoted by Mi’raj islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting.
Two rockets were intercepted by Israel’s Iron Dome missile-defense system, while two others fell to earth in an open field, Israeli daily Haaretz reported.
Israeli occupation army spokesman Peter Lerner wrote on Twitter that one of the rockets had landed near the West Bank city of Ramallah.
It was the first time for rockets fired from the Gaza Strip to hit Jerusalem since Tuesday, when three rockets struck the city.
Israel launched a major air offensive against the Gaza Strip on Monday, which has so far killed at least 86 Palestinians in an unrelenting series of aerial bombardments.
Gaza-based resistance factions, meanwhile, have continued to fire rockets into Israel – without any casualties reported thus far – in response to the ongoing airstrikes. (T/P09/E01)
