Rome, MINA – Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said on Monday that Italy is getting closer to recognizing a Palestinian state following the Gaza ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas.
“Obviously, if this plan materializes, Italian recognition of Palestine will certainly be closer,” Meloni told reporters on the sidelines of the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit in Egypt, according to the ANSA news agency.
She emphasized that Italy aims to support the establishment of a Palestinian state while continuing humanitarian support for the people of Gaza.
As reported by Anadolu, Meloni affirmed that Italy is ready to help stabilize Gaza, including deploying Carabinieri forces if a UN resolution requires it.

“Italy is ready to do its part. This is a big opportunity. This is a historic day. I am proud that Italy is here,” she said.
Meloni described the ceasefire agreement as a “great success” for US President Donald Trump, adding: “We wish him more (success), starting with Ukraine.”
Last week, Trump announced that Israel and the Palestinian group Hamas had agreed to the first phase of a plan he formulated on September 29 to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza, release all Israeli captives in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, and the gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from the entire Gaza Strip.
The second phase of the plan calls for the establishment of a new governing mechanism in Gaza, the formation of a multinational force, and the disarmament of Hamas.
