ITALIAN PARLIAMENT HOLDS PRELIMINARY MEETING TO RECOGNIZE PALESTINIAN STATE
Rome, 27 Rabi’uul Awwal 1436/18 January 2015 (MINA) – Palestinian Ambassador to Italy Mai Al-Kaila said that the Italian Parliament held a preliminary meeting to discuss recognising a Palestinian State on the borders of 1967.
Kaila said in a statement to Palestine News Network (PNN) that she attended the hearing session at the Parliament held to discuss the Palestinian recognition proposal submitted by three leftist parties (minority parties in the Parliament) on Friday afternoon.
Kaila said that it was obvious that the Italian rightist parties adopted Netanyahu’s speech in Paris as they focused on terrorism and its relations to Islamic political parties like Hamas. They also condemned the Palestinian president for making an alliance with Hamas and forming the unity government, Palestine News Network (PNN) quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting.
On the other hand, three leftist parties ( Five Star Movement, Communist Refoundation Party, Left Ecology Freedom ) proposed resolution drafts to recognise a Palestinian state which led to a heated discussion due to different opinions between the members of the Parliament leading the session to an open end.
The Palestinian Ambassador said that the Parliament will hold another session on January 21 to hear the presentations of Chair of the Political Committee of the Palestinian Legislative Council Abdallah Abdallah who was invited by the Parliament, Palestinian Ambassador to Italy Mai Al-Kaila along with Alon Liel who wrote a document at the end of 2014 on behalf of the intellectuals of Israel urging the British government to Recognise Palestine, and Aster Mardoc Professor at Tel Aviv University who also signed Liel’s document.(T/R05/P3)
