Indonesia’s NTT Hold Four Top Tourism Events

Kupang, MINA – The provincial government of Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) this year will hold four top national tourism events – those are Komodo Festival, Tour de Flores, Sandelwood Horse Parade and Ikat Weaving Festival, as well as the Likurai Festival.

“Four tourism events held this year have been included in the top 100 national events and received support from the central government,” said Head of NTT Tourism Department Marius Ardu Jelamu in Kupang on Sunday. Antaranews reported.

He explained that the Komodo Festival will be staged in March in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai (Flores Island) and the international cycling race Tour de Flores in May.

While the 1001 Sandelwood Parade Parade combined with the Ikat Weaving Festival on Sumba Island in August, as well as the Likurai Festival in July 2018 on Timor Island.

According to Marius, a number of tourism activities is an effort to improve the promotion of tourism in the province consisting of islands.

“Since this event has become a branding for the tourism of this region and known to the various countries its implementation should be maintained to keep attracting domestic and foreign tourists” he said.

He mentioned that other activities will  also  be held in Flores such as Flores Festival and National Parade in Ende, Gemufamire Festival, Tsunami Festival in Maumere, Caci Festival in Manggarai, the expo and carnival in Alor District, the art and cultural festival in Sabu Raijua, and the Tour de Timor on Timor Island.

“Almost all districts in this area have tourism activities and we have coordinated with all heads of tourism office to be able to draft and prepare it best,” he said.

“As NTT’s tourism potential is very abundant such in natural, coastal, marine, until arts and culture, supporting infrastructure is also should be improved.  Local government must coordinate with central government to package them well to attract as many tourists as possible,” he said. .
