THE WIVES OF INDONESIAN VOLUNTEERS IN GAZA ARE HAPPY AND PROUD OF THEIR HUSBANDS

Jakarta , 17 Rabiul Akhir 1435/17 February 2014 (MINA) – The families of the Indonesian  volunteers in Gaza (for the construction of Indonesian Hospital in Gaza) admitted that they are sad being abandoned by their husbands, but they are happy and proud that the people whom they loved,  set out to help their brothers in Palestine .

Alhamdulillah (Thanks be to Allah) we can help our brothers in Gaza. We support it since the beginning because it is a kind of great worship. We feel sad, but we are happy and proud that we could do this, ” said the chairman of volunteer’s wife, Wahyuni when she was escorting her husband, Faried Thalib to the airport, Monday.

Wahyuni said she actually wanted to accompany her husband to Gaza Strip, as in the previous trips, but she was too late to prepare the required documentations. Faried Thalib, who is one of the members of Medical Emergency Rescue Committee (MER-C) Presidium, leads the construction of RSI.

In the same place, the wife of other volunteer Nur Ikhwan Abadi, Siti Muthmainnah said she strongly supported her husband to go back to Gaza for humanitarian mission. “I fully support my husband because this is a honour job to become humanitarian volunteer. We wish we could help many people who need the help, ” Siti said.

Nur Ikhwan Abadi was one of the volunteers who had experienced facing directly with the Israeli occupation army in the Mavi Marmara humanitarian ships group to break the Israeli blockade of the Gaza strip in 2010. He was jailed for several days by the Zionist occupation army.

Nur Ikhwan’s mother, Maryati also said she feel proud of the way which is chosen by her son. “ We are proud that my son becomes a humanitarian volunteer,” said Maryati while shedding tears. “In my pray, I always pray for Nur Ikhwan. I hope what he is doing now run well and can come back home again safely,” she said.

“Indonesian Hospital construction program undertaken by MER-C becomes phenomenal and historical because it was done wholly by Indonesian Citizens, staring from the foundation, the process of construction and the supervision,” Nur Ikhwan said.

In the era of the President Soeharto, Indonesia’s MER-C also built a mosque in Bosnia which was known as Istiqlal Mosque. It makes Indonesian people proud in international communities because it was all done by Indonesians.

According to the engineer who leads the RSI construction, the financial contribution for the RS construction comes from the middle and low income level of Indonesians.

“Palestine was the first country recognizing the independence of Indonesia. It means we have moral responsibility to help Palestinians because they now still under the occupation,“ Ikhwan argued.

The RSI still needs more support for providing medical equipments and it costs about Rp. 60 billion (USD 60 million) .

Meanwhile, Farid said, RSI is the prove of love from Indonesian people from Sabang to Merauke to Palestinians. “We thanks to all Indonesians who entrusted us in this mission, especially to the volunteers of Al-Fatah who have been working hard to finish the RSI,” he said. (L/P09/P04/E01)
