Indonesia Welcomes the Fatah-Hamas Reconciliation Deal

Jakarta, MINA – Indonesia has welcomed the outcome of the reconciliation talks and a deal agreed by the Palestinian factions of Fatah and Hamas to form a national unity government in their meeting in Cairo, Foreign Ministry Spokesman, Arrmanatha Nasir stated.

“Indonesia wants the two factions to unite, and that is what Indonesia has always taken for Palestine,” Arrmanatha said at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Friday (13/10).

Earlier, it is reported that both Palestinian factions have reached an agreement to end 10 years of national secession in the second session of a reconciliation meeting brokered by Egypt in Cairo on Thursday (12/10) at 1 pm local time.

The Fatah and Hamas have agreed, the Ramallah-based Unity Government will take over political and administrative control in the Gaza Strip from Hamas, starting from December 1, 2017.

The agreement also stipulates the election of the legislative council and presidential elections must be made within one year after its signing, although details of the reconciliation agreement have not been announced. (L/R04/RS5)
