Khatam Ceremony to Mark Sultan Hasanal Bolkiah’s Birthday

Bandar Seri Begawan 18 Rajab 1437/26 April 2016  (MINA) – A total of 550 people in the Brunei-Muara district attended the 70 times Khatam Al-Quran ceremony Monday at the Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah in Kampung Kiarong.

The religious ceremony,  organised by the Penghulu Mukim and Village Head Institution Section of the Brunei-Muara District Office, was held in conjunction with the upcoming 70th birthday of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.

Present as the guest of honour was Minister of Home Affairs Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Hj Awang Abu Bakar Hj Apong, Brunei Times was quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) aas reporting.

The ceremony was aimed at upholding and expressing appreciation towards the sultanate’s Malay Muslim Monarchy (MIB) concept as a system which contributes to the strong unity,  prosperity,  harmony,  peace and order which is enjoyed by the nation.

It was also aimed at instilling the culture of reciting Al-Quran as a daily practice and honouring His Majesty’s desire into making Brunei a Zikir Nation.

According to the Penghulu Mukim and Village Head Institution Section, the ceremony is also a means to show the people’s gratitude towards the blessings bestowed by Allah SWT.

The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, followed by a special prayer led by the mosque’s Imam. (T/R07/R01)
