Hamas Delegation Meets with Abbas in Ramallah

Ramallah, MINA – A delegation from Hamas met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas at the provincial headquarters in occupied Ramallah.

In an interview with Quds Press, the head of the delegation, Nasser Al-Din Al-Shaer, said that the discussions that were held during the meeting revolved around several issues, including Jerusalem and the political division.

He explained that the officials discussed ways to build on the recent victory in confronting the Israeli measures in the occupied city of Jerusalem. He called for elaborating political agendas to achieve national unity and end the state of fragmentation in the Palestinian arena.

Abbas described the meeting as “positive and warm” and expressed his hope that more steps would be taken as a result in an effort to end division and restore national cohesion, MEMO reported as quoted MINA, Thursday (3/8/17)

He pointed out that the two sides agreed on the continuity of bilateral communication. He asserted also that the goal of the meeting, which was initiated by former ministers and three deputies of the Legislative Council, was “humanitarian” since it aimed “to check the health condition of President Abbas. At the end of the meeting, many national issues that concern Palestine were raised,” according to Al-Shaer.

From his side, the Minister of Planning, Samir Abu Eisha, said: “The lessons learned from Jerusalem, the protection of the national project and its serious national steps to end the division and restore unity have been discussed.”

The meeting stressed also “the necessity to seize the opportunity and Jerusalem’s victory, which was accompanied by a national commitment and unity of all parties, in order to restore the unity of the Palestinian people, as the national community has become aware of the need to restore unity to the homeland and to end the 11 years of division,” according to Abu Eisha.(T/R04/RS5)
