HABIBIE: STRENGTHEN ISLAMIC BROTHERHOOD WITH AL-QURAN AND HADITHS

Jakarta, 23 Dzulqa’dah 1435/17 September 2014 (MINA) – Chairman of Honorary Board of Indonesian Muslim Intellectuals Association (ICMI, Ikatan Cendekiawan Muslim se-Indonesia), Baharuddin Jusuf Habibie said, cadres of ICMI should strengthen Islamic brotherhood by practicing values ​​of Al-Qur’an and Hadiths.

The third President of the Republic of Indonesia also expected ICMI as a forum of Muslim intellectuals could make breakthroughs for increasing nation.

“Forming of ICMI is not just coincidence, but it related to global and regional development inside and outside the country,” said Habibie in Silaturahim and Halal Bi Halal of ICMI at Rimbawan Hall, Wanabakti Mangala Complex, Jakarta on Monday night (16 september).

ICMI was established December 7, 1990 at a meeting of Muslim intellectuals in Malang 6 to 8 December 1990. BJ Habibie is the first chairman of the ICMI.

According to B.J. Habibie, the person who initiated the need for forum of Muslim intellectuals was a student from Brawijaya University, Erik Salman.

“A group of students are concerned about the condition of Muslims. There is polarization of leadership among Muslims,” Habibie said. “each group is busy with their own group. They struggle partly in accordance with their respective professions. ” he added.

He stated, ICMI was an intellectual umbrella for Indonesian Muslims in building society.

Muslim intellectuals are Islamic people who care about the environment, improve the quality of faith and piety, be able to think, explore, understand and apply science and technology.

The event was also attended by Head of Advisory Board of ICMI, Jimly Asshiddiqie; Chairman of Presidium of the ICMI, Priyo Budi Santoso; and some figures such as Ilham Habibie, Amien Rais, Wiranto, Irman Gusman and Fadel Muhammad. (L/P010/R05/P009/P3)
