Gaza, 26 Rabi’ul Akhir 1436/16 February 2015 (MINA) – Palestinian resistance groups say they will respond to any potential new war against the Gaza Strip by Israel amid a rise in threats by Israeli political figures preparing for upcoming elections, Press TV reports.
Palestinian resistance factions, including the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), said they were taking the fresh anti-Gaza rhetoric by the Israeli politicians seriously, warning that any attack on the blockaded coastal enclave would be met with fierce resistance, Press Tv quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting. Monday (16/2).
This comes after Israeli army Major General Yuav Galant said he would launch a new war against the Gaza Strip if he became defense minister following the March 17 legislative elections.
Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman also recently said it was only a matter of time before another war on Gaza would take place.
The resistance groups said the recent threats only show Tel Aviv’s hostile intentions against the Palestinian people, especially those living in the Gaza Strip.
The new threats come only months after the Gaza Strip faced a deadly Israeli war.
Last summer, about 2,200 Palestinians, including 577 children, were killed in a 50-day Israeli onslaught, which started in early July 2014 and ended in late August. Over 11,100 others, including 3,374 children, 2,088 women and 410 elderly people, were also injured.
Some 100,000 people remain homeless in the besieged coastal sliver.
The Gaza Strip has been blockaded since June 2007, which has caused a decline in the standard of living, unprecedented levels of unemployment, and unrelenting poverty. The coastal strip has already been through three Israeli wars since 2008. (T/P002/P3)
