Four MUI Messages Ahead of the New Year

Jakarta, MINA – The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) has expressed the hope that in welcoming the New Year 2018 we should do it in a good, simple, and modest way.

The welcoming of the year should be filled with muhasabah (self-evaluation) of what has been done during the previous year, said MUI Vice Chairman Zainut Tauhid Saadi

Good things should be continued for the better and bad things should be left behind, he added.

The complete MUI message as follows:

Firstly, MUI invites all people to conduct self-evaluation in the new year and make 2018 a milestone for designing and living a better, productive, constructive and qualitative future.

“We are reflecting on the changing of the year with full faith, piety and sincerity and always expect the pleasure of Allah SWT in a cool, calm and peaceful mood,” Zainut said here on Saturday (30/12).

It is according to the word of Allah in the Quran Surah al-Hashr verse 18, which means: “O those who believe in fear Allah and let everyone pay attention to what he has done for tomorrow, and fear Allah. Indeed, Allah is Seer of what you do. ”

Fourth, the MUI appealed in celebrating the New Year’s turn filled with positive and constructive things. It is not forbidden to rejoice in celebrating, but it must be done in a reasonable way, not excessive, wasteful, vain (tabdzir), and we are not carried away in excessive joy in order to distance ourselves from Allah SWT.
