Europe to Demand Israel pay Compensation For Destroying Projects it Funded
Ramallah, MINA – Eight European Union member states have prepared a memorandum demanding that Israel pay compensation for projects they have funded in West Bank areas classified as C but were destroyed by Israel, Palestinian ambassador to Belgium and the European Union Abdel-Rahim al-Farra said on Thursday.
He told the official Voice of Palestine radio that tension was high between the European Union and Israel in light of the latter’s heightened settlement construction in the occupied Palestinian territories and its destruction of EU-funded humanitarian assistance projects aimed for the benefit of disadvantaged Palestinians.
He said the EU considered latest statements by top Israeli officials regarding the acceleration in the pace of settlement construction as coming in response to EU demand that Israel clarify these decisions, especially the ones in occupied East Jerusalem, PIC reported.
Farra said that the EU was considering the possibility of ending the partnership agreement with Israel.
He demanded that the EU take action against Israeli settlement products a step further by banning them from the source of origin and not only to classify them as made in the settlements.(R/R04/RS5)
