ERDOGAN EMPHASIZES ERADICATING RADICALISM

Jakarta, 15 Shawwal 1436/31 July 2015 (MINA) – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan gave a public lecture in front of the staff and officials in the National Security Agency (Lemhanas), Friday (31/7) emphasized the importance of cooperation in the fight against radicalism and terrorism.

“Indonesia has been fighting against terrorism. Therefore, we hope to cooperate with Indonesia in this part, “Erdogan said at the  Gajah Mada Auditorium, Defense Building, Friday.

Meanwhile, the Lemhanas chief Budi Susilo Soepandji in his speech expressed the visit has become a symbol of sustainability and a revival of good law between Turkey and Indonesia.

“It is a special day for Lemhanas to receive the Erdogan’s visit. This is the first time for us  (for the last three decades) to receive the president of Turkey, “said Budi.

“I hope this public lecture could expand the understanding of the importance and cooperation of the Republic of Indonesia to the Republic of Turkey,” added Budi.

He also noted Lemhanas was inaugurated by the first Indonesian President, Soekarno on May 20, 1965.

Lemhanas is the institution in the country that prepares national leaders at the government, “said Budi.

Turkish President Erdogan gave a public lecture using the Turkish language. He came to Indonesia with the first lady Emine Erdogan, the Turkish Ambassador to Indonesia Zekeriya Akçam.

The last visit of Turkish President’s to Indonesia was in 2011. President of Turkey at the time, Abdullah Gul had a meeting with former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono at the State Palace, Jakarta.

Erdogan had made his visit to Indonesia in 2006 attended the D8 Summit (group of eight developing countries). At that time he was still serving as prime minister.

Indonesia – Turkey diplomatic relation has existed since 1950, six years after Turkey recognizes Indonesia as a sovereign state.

Before visiting Indonesia, Erdogan has visited  China. The visit concerning the issue of oppression of Muslim Uighurs by local government. However, the issue was denied by Chinese Government. (L/P010/R04/R03)
