Occupied Jerusalem, 3 Ramadan 1438/29 May 2017 (MINA) – Ashkelon Regional Council Chairman Yair Farjun warned of the consequences of the deterioration of the living conditions in the besieged Gaza Strip. The siege affects the security of settlements in the vicinity of the Gaza Strip, he opined.

In a press article in Yedioth Ahronoth Hebrew newspaper, Farjun opined that preventing a humanitarian disaster in Gaza is an Israeli interest in the first place, the Palestinian Information Center (PIC) reported.
He called on the Israeli government to work on putting an end to the aggravating suffering in the besieged coastal enclave.

“Even though the siege prevents Hamas of entering weapons and rockets into Gaza, Israel has to maintain its security in the surrounding settlements by facilitating the entry of people’s humanitarian needs”, he said.

He believed that allowing basic humanitarian requirements to enter the blockaded coastal enclave might prevent the escalation of security conditions and reduce the risks coming from Gaza.

The facilitation needed includes the entry of goods and medications into Gaza as well as maintaining basic humanitarian standards of living conditions in Gaza, Farjun clarified.(T/R04/RS5)
