ASIAN-AFRICAN PARLIAMENTARY CONFERENCE ISSUES INTO PALESTINE
Jakarta, 4 Rajab 1436/23 April 2015 (MINA) – The Indonesia House of Representatives held a Conference of the Asian-African Parliament as one of the side events of 60 th Asian African Conference Commemotation (AACC). The event focused on issues of Palestine independence declaration.
“In the event, it is important for us to discuss the Palestinian issue. We know, until now the Palestinians are still fighting for the freedom. Palestinian issue is the mandate of the preambule of 1945 Constitution which may be the only one of the classic problems related to self-determination unresolved until now, “said the speaker, Setya Novanto in a statement.
“This event is also a form of brotherhood of Asian and African people,” he added.
Furthermore, he delivered one of the goal as a form of support for Palestinian independence. “Through the event, we want to replay the aids of Palestinians when they helped us by supporting our independence,” he urged.
The event took place in Nusantara Building, Parliament Compleks, Senayan, Central Jakarta, Thursday (23/4), starting at 8:30 am, attended by 33 countries, 30 parliaments and three representatives.
The Former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) who was also the Chairman of the Global Green Growth Institute delievered keynote speaker at the first session.
Despite Palestinian issue, there are three points which are discussed; a forum for Asian and African parliaments in equating perspectives and solutions to the challenges in the future, fstrengthening of the role of parliaments in developing South-South Cooperation in the context of the New Asia Africa Strategic Partnership (NAASP), and shaping the post-2015 global development agenda.
