PALM OIL THE BEST ALTERNATIVE ENERGY REPLACING FOSSIL

Jakarta, 7 Ramadan 1435/5 July 2014 (MINA)- Palm oil is the best alternative energy source replacing fossil that will run out soon because the plants have high productivity and friendly to environment.

The Dean of Agricultural Faculty, Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) Ernan Rustiadi in discussion entitled “The Importance of Palm Oil Industry for National Economic Growth following negative campaign done by West ” in Bogor, Thursday, said the entire industry will change to the  from biological resources industry in the future.

“Natural resources will discharges and will change to biological resources. Of course it is an opportunity and a challenge for Indonesia,” said Ernan. Antara quoted by  Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting.

According to him, many countries currently thought alternative energy sources for the future. It based on scientists’ conclusion who claimed fuel derived from fossil will use up within 50-75 years.

Nowadays, many countries begin developing BioEco Energy (biofuels). It considered as the most appropriate one because  easily produced and friendly to environment. “One of the basic material which has the highest potential for biofuel production is palm oil (CPO),” said Ernan.

Developing national palm oil industry is highly prospective because Indonesia government is running biofuels (biodiesel) development program. It uses palm oil as raw material.

The Indonesia Minister of Research and Technology, Gusti Muhammad Hatta, said the development of palm oil into biofuel was the most strategic thing. ” in global energy crisis today, Indonesia take step forward  to develop palm oil into bioenergy,” he said.

the government supported the development of the technology because fossil energy will use up in 10 to 20 years,” the minister added.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the National Research Centre for Oil Palm (PPKS), Witjaksana Darmosarkoro, said the accelerating in overcoming the energy crisis through the palm oil industry would not succeed if not supported by stakeholders.

Therefore, he asked the support from the Ministry of Research and Technology, Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Commerce.

Indonesia is the largest palm oil producer in the world. Indonesia also has the largest oil palm plantation in the world. It put Indonesia as reference in developing palm oil in the world. (T/Syt/P04)
