OIC FMs Set to Convene in Cote d’Ivoire in July

Jeddah, 24 Ramadan 1438/19 June 2017 (MINA) – The Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s (OIC) General Secretariat announced on Sunday that preparations were underway for the 44th session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers, slated for July 10-11 in Cote d’Ivoire’s capital Abidjan.

The meeting will zero in on “the role of youth, peace and development in a world in solidarity,”KUNA reported, citing a statement by the OIC.

Other major issues on the agenda include the fight against terrorism, extremism, Islamophobia and the latest regional happenings, the statement added.

The OIC Foreign Ministers are also expected to discuss the plight of Muslim communities in non-OIC member nations, particularly, the Rohingya in Myanmar and Muslims in the Philippines and Thailand.

The session will also tackle economic, cultural and social developments, in addition to issues germane to youth and women, the statement pointed out. (T/RS5/RS1)
