Putin says Islamic world can ‘count on Russia’

 
Moscow, 21 Sha’ban 1438/18 May 2017 (KUNA) — Russian President Vladimir Putin pledged on Wednesday his country’s full support to the Muslim World in facing terrorism and resolving key security issues,KUNA reported.

Speaking at the Group of Strategic Vision “Russia-Islamic World” meeting in the Chechen Republic’s capital Grozny, Putin affirmed that Russia is willing to boost cooperation with Muslim countries to end conflicts peacefully and safeguard the region’s stability.

The president also spoke of the importance of international cooperation to achieve democratic systems that are free of extremism and hatred

Meanwhile, Putin noted that in addition to the dangers of terrorism, the Muslim World is also facing social and economic issues that must be resolved.

The annual meeting aims to improve economic cooperation between Russia and Muslim countries and drafting measures to counter growing security threats, based on traditional spiritual and peaceful values of Islam and other religions.

The Group includes senior state figures from 27 Muslim states, including former prime ministers, former foreign ministers and a number of influential religious scholars. (T/RS5/RS1)
