Jakarta’s Summit to Bring Palestinian Cause Back to Forefront — OIC
Jeddah, 11 Jumaal Awwal 1437/ 20 Feruary 2016 (MINA) – The Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s (OIC) Extraordinary Summit on Palestine and Al-Quds (Jerusalem) Al- Sharif, to be held in Jakarta on March 6-7, will bring back the Palestinian cause to the forefront of political issues in the region, said a statement by the Organization Saturday.
OIC’s Assistant Secretary for Palestine and Jerusalem affairs Samir Bakr Diab said in a press statement that the summit will address the grave challenges facing the Palestinians in Jerusalem especially with the continuous Israeli hostile policies against the people of Palestine.
The summit will aim at unifying the OIC members’ stance on the issue to bring upon a just and permanent solution to the Palestinian struggle, said Diab, adding that the OIC will use the event as a starting point to rally the international support for the Palestinians.
Diab said resolutions coming out from the Jakarta summit will be followed up in the upcoming OIC 13th regular summit to be held in Istanbul, Turkey, next April, Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) quoted KUNA as reporting.
Meanwhile, Director General of Multilateral Affairs of the Indonesian Foreign Ministry Hasan Kleib, at his office in Jakarta on Thursday (2/4/2016) confirmed that the President of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, will attend the summit in Jakarta.
According to the plan, the Quartet members will also be invited, which are Russia, the United States of America (US), UN and EU. The quartet, comprising of Russia, United States, European Union and United Nations is the only mechanism available for Israel-Palestine peace process.
However, there are still no confirmations from the quartet members. (R07/R01)
