ANTI-ISRAEL DEMONSTRATIONS HELD ACROSS THE WORLD
Cairo, 21 Ramadhan 1435 / 19 July 2014 (MINA) – Anti-Israel protests have been held around the world as the Tel Aviv regime presses ahead with its deadly aerial and ground assaults on the besieged Gaza Strip.
On Friday, Egyptian protesters denounced Israeli atrocities against Palestinians in Gaza. The demonstrators called on Egyptian authorities to ease the restrictions on the victims of the Israeli bombardments. Egypt keeps the Rafah border crossing in Gaza closed, while Israel has put the sliver under siege since 2007.
In Jordan, thousands of people took to the streets of the capital, Amman, to express solidarity with the people of Gaza. The protesters chanted slogans in support of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas that controls Gaza, Press TV quoted by Mi’raj News Agency (MINA) as reporting, Saturday.
Anti-Israel demonstrations have also been staged in Romania, Italy, Afghanistan, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, and several other countries.
Meanwhile, violent protests broke out in Indian-administered Kashmir, where thousands took to the streets after Friday prayers to voice anger at Israel’s attacks.
Israeli warplanes have been carrying out incessant airstrikes on Gaza since July 8. On Thursday, thousands of Israeli soldiers also launched a ground invasion into the densely-populated Palestinian territory.
Nearly 310 people have been killed in the latest round of Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip.
Greeks slam Israel atrocities against Palestinians
Meabwhile in Athens, thousands of people in Greece have taken to the streets to condemn Israel’s attacks against Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip, Press TV reports.
The Greek Civil Servants’ Confederation, opposition parties, activists, students and the Palestinian community were among protesters, who staged the demonstration in the capital Athens on Thursday.
The demonstrators said that Israel violates international law by building illegal settlements and using violence against civilians.
Meanwhile, Palestinian diplomats in Greece believe that Israel attacks the Gaza Strip to try to circumvent an international movement of boycott, divestment and sanctions — known by its acronym, BDS, which is part of international efforts to pressure Tel Aviv to stop illegal constructions in the occupied Palestinian territory.
“Israel has rejected all efforts of Western and regional diplomats towards a solution and this has isolated Israel more than ever in the international community…It (Israel) attracts international’s attention by targeting civilians,” Palestine’s Ambassador to Greece Marwan Toubassi told the Press TV correspondent.
Similar demonstrations were also held in other countries during the past week, including Pakistan, El Salvador, France, Venezuela, Spain, England and the United States, to denounce the Tel Aviv regime’s offensive against the blockaded coastal sliver.
Israel has killed about 300 people since it began its latest onslaught against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip on July 8. About a third of the Palestinian fatalities are women and children.
Gaza has been blockaded since 2007, a situation that has caused a decline in the standard of living, unprecedented levels of unemployment, and unrelenting poverty. (T/E01/IR)
