New York, MINA – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrived in New York on Thursday ahead of his scheduled speech at the 80th United Nations General Assembly.
Upon arrival, Netanyahu held a meeting at his New York residence with US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff. According to Israeli Channel 12, the discussions centered around a new American initiative aimed at ending the ongoing war in Gaza and reviewing recent political developments.
Joining the talks were Jared Kushner, son-in-law of US President Donald Trump, and Israeli Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer. Sources familiar with the matter said that Kushner and Witkoff recently presented Israel with Trump’s 21-point peace proposal to resolve the Gaza conflict. However, Netanyahu and Dermer reportedly expressed objections to several points within the plan.
Netanyahu is set to address the UN General Assembly on Friday and will meet with President Trump on Monday.

In an unusual move, Netanyahu’s flight to the US avoided French airspace, instead traveling over Greece and Italy. Israeli media linked this change of route to an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) against Netanyahu and former Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, citing alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in Gaza.
Since October 2023, the Israeli military aggression in Gaza has resulted in the deaths of over 65,500 Palestinians, the majority of whom were women and children. The prolonged conflict has devastated the enclave, causing widespread starvation, disease, and the collapse of essential infrastructure. []
