Yogyakarta, MINA – The Central Board (PP) of Muhammadiyah has announced that 1 Ramadan 1446 H will fall on Saturday, March 1, 2025, and 1 Syawal 1446 H (Eid al-Fitr) on Monday, March 31, 2025.

The decision is based on the Hisab Hakiki Wujudul Hilal method used by Muhammadiyah’s Tarjih and Tajdid Council to determine the beginning of lunar months in the Hijri calendar.

“On Friday, February 28, 2025, at sunset, the moon will be above the horizon across all regions in Indonesia. Therefore, 1 Ramadan 1446 H will be on Saturday, March 1, 2025,” explained Muhammad Sayuti, Secretary of PP Muhammadiyah, during a press conference at Muhammadiyah Headquarters in Yogyakarta on Wednesday (February 12).

Regarding the determination of 1 Syawal, Sayuti noted that the conjunction (ijtima’) will occur on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at 17:59:51 WIB, with the moon’s position below the horizon (-01° 59′ 04″) at sunset.

“Since the crescent moon will not be visible in any part of Indonesia, the month of Ramadan will be completed as 30 days (istikmal), and thus 1 Shawwal 1446 H will fall on Monday, March 31, 2025,” he added.

Muhammadiyah has also determined that 1 Dhul-Hijjah will fall on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, with the Day of Arafah on Thursday, June 5, 2025, and Eid al-Adha on Friday, June 6, 2025.[]
