Indonesia Invites US to Resolve Rohingya Crisis
Singapura, MINA – Indonesian President Joko Widodo Invites the United States (US) to support ASEAN Humanitarian Assistance (AHA) Center, especially related to humanitarian crisis in Rohingya, Rakhine, Myanmar.
This was conveyed by Jokowi i n a bilateral meeting with US Vice President Mike Pence on the sidelines of the 33rd ASEAN Summit held at the Suntec Convention Center, Singapore, Wednesday.
“We need US support for AHA Center, so we can carry out mandates from ASEAN leaders to play a role in the Rakhine State,” Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said after accompanying President Jokowi as quoted by Republika News in Jakarta on Thursday.
During the meeting, President Jokowi and the US Vice President also discussed cooperation in three fields, namely cooperation in building a pluralistic society, economic cooperation and maintaining peace and security.
President Jokowi paid special attention on the humanitarian crisis experienced by the majority of Muslims in Rakhine State. President Jokowi has invited ASEAN member countries to be part of solving problems related to the humanitarian crisis in Rakhine State, Myanmar.
This is one of important points conveyed by the President while speaking at the 33rd ASEAN plenary session at Suntec Convention Center, Singapore.
“Humanitarian crisis of Rohingya has not yet been resolved. As a family, Indonesia hopes that a step forward can be taken to resolve this,” the President said.
“Indonesia is ready, I am sure, ASEAN is also ready to help the Myanmar Government to create conducive conditions in the Rakhine State where freedom of movement is respected, there is no discrimination, and development inclusivily.” President ended. (T/Sj/RS5)
