Brasilia, 9 Dhulqo’dah 1436/24 August 2016 (MINA) – Forty well-known Brazilian organisations have signed a public opinion statement condemning Israel’s nomination of Dani Dayan, former head of the pro-settler Yesha Council, as Israeli ambassador to Brazil.

In their statement, the organisations described Dayon’s nomination as a violation of international legitimacy and challenge to Brazil’s sovereignty and demanded their government reject Dayan’s nomination.

A copy of the statement was submitted to the regional office of the Brazilian Presidency in Sao Paulo. Middle East Monitor (MEMO) quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA).

The statement coincided with interventions made by a number of Brazilian parliamentarians who condemned the nomination of a settler as an ambassador, describing such a step as a challenge to Brazil’s sovereignty and its official political stance that accords with international law, and an assault on Brazilian diplomacy.

Dayan, a resident of the Ma’aleh Shomron settlement, was the head of the Council of Jewish Communities of Judea and Samaria from 2007-2013. ities of Judea and Samaria from 2007-2013. (T/PO2/RO6)
