Jenin, 25 Ramadhan 1436/12 July 2015 (MINA) – Three Palestinians were killed and more than 20 injured in a car accident near the town of Aqqaba in northern Jenin on Saturday.

Sources in the Palestinian Red Crescent told Ma’an that three men were killed in the accident which involved a private car and a bus.

Ambulances arrived at the scene where they had to free more than 20 injured passengers, some in serious condition.

The dead men were identified as Muhammed Waleed Ghanaiem, 30, Thaer Hamamra, and Hassan Jamal Nuerat, Ma’an News Agency reports as quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA).

The injured were taken to Jenin hospital for treatment.

Eye witnesses said that the police had opened an investigation on the accident.

Earlier this month, four Palestinians were killed and two others injured in a car accident in eastern Ramallah.

The Ministry of Health’s last available statistics in 2013 recorded nearly 8,000 reported road and traffic accidents, although they stressed that this figure only included reported incidents and the actual number was likely far higher.

In fatal accidents, the MoH said, the dead are often not taken to the hospital, meaning that fatalities go under-reported.

Most accidents were recorded in the Jericho and Ramallah districts. About 80 percent of injuries were light to moderate. (T/P010/R03)
