150 SCHOLARSHIP STUDENTS TO ATTEND SYARIAH LAW TALK
Bandar Seri Begawan, 16 Dzulqa’dah 1435/11 September 2014 (MINA) – A total of 150 students who were recently awarded scholarships for the 2014/2015 academic year will be getting a briefing on the Syariah Penal Code Order 2013 today.
“The talk is part of its pre-departure briefing for overseas scholarship students,” said The Ministry of Education in a statement, The Brunei Times quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting.
From February until August this year, a total of 207 students were granted government scholarships in various programmes – A Levels, first degree and master’s courses in United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Germany, Ireland and Malaysia.
The students also comprised 23 A Level graduates from Jerudong International School, 10 Medicine students from Universiti Brunei Darussalam’s (UBD) Twinning Programme and Institut Teknologi Brunei (ITB) engineering students.
During the four-day pre-departure briefing that started yesterday, the students are expected to understand rules and regulations on the scholarships.
The press statement added that a religious talk on morals and faith was conducted yesterday.
Today, the students will listen to a sharing session with Brunei Student Union representative in the United Kingdom, Radin Abdullah Radin Basiuni, and a talk from the Narcotics Control Bureau.
Dr Hj Muhammad Hadi Muhammad Melayong, head of the Melayu Islam Beraja Executive Council Secretariat will deliver a talk on the national ideology on the final day of the programme.(T/P008/P3)
