11 Palestinian Detainees in Palestinian Authority’ Prisons Start Hunger Strike
Gaza, MINA – Acording to local sources in Nablus, 11 young men from the village of Urif have declared a hunger strike in the prisons of the Palestinian Liberation Authority, which has been holding them for weeks.
The families of the detainees explained that they suffer from bad conditions and have been subjected to beatings and violation since their arrest, and the PLO devices are pressuring them to deny that they have been tortured, MINA’s contributor in Gaza reported.
The political arrests in Urif came with the start of the “Sword of Jerusalem” battle that the Palestinian resistance in Gaza responded to the Israeli occupation systemic violations against Palestinians in Jerusalem, so the town went out in demonstrations in support of the Palestinian resistance in Gaza.
Among the detainees is the young freed prisoner Yassin Shehadeh, who has been detained with twenty other young men from the town in Jericho prison since the beginning of the last Israeli aggression on Gaza. As a result, he lost the ability to defecate and lost 20 kg hunger of weight.
On the other hand, the Palestinian Authority Court in Nablus extended the detention of the released prisoner Muhammad al-Koni for 4 days, despite his poor health and his need for an urgent operation, according to the Palestinian Information Center.
During the past years, torture in the prisons of the Palestinian Authority caused the death of 15 citizens, including Majd al-Barghouti and Ahmed Halawa. (L-G/RE1)
