UN to Hold Meeting on Palestine
New York, 26 Dzulqa’dah 1437/229 August 2016 (MINA) – The United Nations Security council is scheduled Monday to hold its annual meeting to discuss the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question, Jordanian news agency Petra reported.
During the meeting, the council will hear briefing by the Secretariat of the United Nations on the latest developments in the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, as well as the Syrian Golan Heights and Lebanon.
A state of dissatisfaction prevails between the United Nations and Israel over the rejection of Israel to release a UN staffer, charged with aiding Hamas, on the grounds that he enjoys diplomatic immunity.
In early August, an Israeli court charged the 38-year-old Palestinian engineer with diverting 300 tons of rubble from a UNDP project in to build a jetty for Hamas.(T/R07/R01)
