Gaza, MINA – The humanitarian situation in Gaza has shown signs of improvement in recent days, according to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
Spokesperson Jens Laerke announced Tuesday during a UN briefing in Geneva that aid teams are now able to access areas that were previously unreachable due to movement restrictions.
“I have evidence from our colleagues on the ground who say that humanitarians are now able to move more easily in many areas,” said Laerke. “Teams are reaching people in places that have previously been cut off.”
He emphasized that while conditions remain fluid, access has clearly improved, allowing humanitarian workers to pre-position essential supplies and provide critical assistance.

Over the past weekend, OCHA recorded approximately 310,000 individual movements, mostly from southern to northern Gaza along with an additional 23,000 movements in other directions, reflecting increased internal mobility within the enclave.
Despite improvements in movement, Laerke noted that the scale-up of humanitarian aid under the 20-point ceasefire plan has yet to begin. However, he confirmed that around 190,000 metric tons of aid are currently stockpiled in the region, including in Jordan, the West Bank, and Egypt, awaiting clearance for delivery into Gaza.
“We need this scale-up. We won’t stop until we get it,” Laerke stressed. “But it’s out of our hands when exactly it is going to happen.”
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump last week announced that Israel and Hamas had agreed to implement the first phase of a peace plan proposed on September 29. This includes a ceasefire, the exchange of captives, and a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza. On Monday, the release of Palestinian prisoners began following Hamas’ release of all 20 living Israeli captives.

Phase two of the agreement proposes the establishment of a new governing mechanism in Gaza, the deployment of a multinational force, and the disarmament of Hamas. []
