South Korea Assists US$ 10 Million for Central Sulawesi Earthquake Rehabilitation
Jakarta, MINA – South Korean Government has promised to donate US$ 10 million to assist in the rehabilitation and reconstruction process of areas affected by the earthquake, tsunami and liquefaction in Central Sulawesi, Indonesia.
The commitment was conveyed by the South Korean Ambassador to Indonesia Kim Chang-beom during a bilateral meeting with the Minister of PPN/Head of Bappenas Bambang Brodjonegoro at the Bappenas Building, Jakarta, Tuesday.
“We have decided to donate up to US$10 million dollars to help post-disaster rehabilitation in Central Sulawesi. It is also intended to strengthen cooperation between the Government of South Korea and Indonesia,” Chang explained to reporters.
Chang continued that a cash of US$ 1 million dollars have been given to the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) on October 11 and US$ 2.5 million dollars also given in the form of donations of 160 tent sets and three military transport aircraft previously.
Meanwhile, the remaining 7.5 million dollars in aid will be channeled into two forms of grant collaboration, namely for rehabilitation projects aimed at relocating residents and reconstruction which will be included as the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) multi-annual grant program.
The Indonesian government very appreciates it and promises to make the best use of it for post-disaster rehabilitation in Palu and its surroundings.
“The Indonesian government will continue to encourage the effectiveness and efficiency of disaster mitigation in order to minimize casualties and infrastructure damage when disasters occur,” said Minister Bambang.
Meanwhile, Head of BNPB’s Data, Information and Public Relations Center Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said in a written statement, the calculation of damage and losses due to the natural disaster in Central Sulawesi increased to Rp18.48 trillion. (TL/Sj/RS5)
