Social Affairs Mnister idrus Marham Resigns over Graft Probe
Jakarta, MINA — Social Affairs Minister Idrus Marham submitted his resignation letter to President Joko Widodo here on Friday after recently being interrogated by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
“Today, I met the president at 10:30 a.m. local time after I received a letter informing about the investigation on me,” he remarked at the presidential palace compound.
Marham noted that based on the information, he then decided to meet the president to submit his resignation letter.
As a moral responsibility, Marham said he had decided to resign as social affairs minister based on several considerations.
The first consideration was to uphold the honor of the president, who has, so far, been known for his reputation and commitment to eradicate corruption in the country.
Secondly, Marham explained that he did not want to place more burden on the president and disrupt his focus on fulfilling his duties, which are not light.
“Hence, if I am a suspect and I still say this, then it would be unethical and morally unacceptable,” he remarked.
Marham said the third consideration was that as a citizen, he must abide by the law and fully honor the process followed by the KPK, while concurrently he was keen to concentrate on the process of his case in the KPK. .(T/RS5/RS1)
