RUSSIAN AIRSTRIKES KILL EIGHT CIVILIANS IN SYRIA
Aleppo, 2 Muharram/15 October 2015 (MINA) – Eight civilians lost their lives in Russian air raids on Aleppo and Idlib late Tuesday, sources told Anadolu Agency.
Seven civilians were killed and scores others injured when Russian warplanes struck the opposition-held Hayyan town in Aleppo, a Syrian Civil Defense source said, Anadolu Agency quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting.
The same source added that the Russian airstrikes targeted the same area again while Civil Defense teams were attempting to rescue victims stuck under the collapsed buildings.
Meanwhile, one civilian was killed and seven others injured in a Russian airstrike on Sultan village in Idlib province.
Russia began carrying out airstrikes in war-torn Syria on Sept. 30. According to the Kremlin, the strikes are aimed at supporting the Assad regime — an ally of Russia’s — against Daesh.
Turkey and the West, for their part, accuse Russia of targeting moderate groups in Syria opposed to Assad, many of which are supported by Ankara and Washington.
At least 250,000 people have been killed since the beginning of the Syrian conflict in 2011, with 7.6 million internally displaced and over four million having fled to nearby countries. (T/P010/R03)
