Ramallah, 16 Ramadan 1435/14 July 2014 (MINA) – The president of the Palestinian national unity government, Mahmoud Abbas, has called for the international protection of Palestine as Israel keeps on its aggression against the besieged Gaza Strip.

“President Abbas presented a letter to the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Robert Serry, addressed to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, to officially put the State of Palestine under the UN international protection system and to form a legal committee for immediate follow-up,” the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) said in a statement which was issued on Sunday,Press TV quoted by Mi’raj News Agency (MINA), as reporting, Monday.

Israel continued on Sunday to pound the Gaza Strip for the sixth straight day. The latest Israeli airstrikes have killed at least 32 Palestinians in the besieged territory. At least 170 people have lost their lives in the Gaza Strip since Tuesday when the Israeli attacks began.

Israeli Occupation Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that the Tel Aviv regime will not stop its attacks on the Gaza Strip.

Hanan Ashrawi, a senior member of the PLO, said in a statement after a meeting of the PLO executive that “Abbas is undertaking several steps and measures to deal with the horrific situation in Gaza.”

According to latest reports, troops of the Israeli regime entered the besieged Gaza Strip.

The Israeli Occupation military has called up thousands of reservists for an all-out invasion of the impoverished territory.

Palestinian resistance movement Hamas has warned that it is prepared to hit back at Israeli forces, should the Tel Aviv regime launch a ground attack against Gaza. (T/P012/E01)
