President Jokowi Arrives in Iran for Official Visit

President Joko Widodo and First Lady Iriana arrives at Mehrabad Airport, Iran.

 

New Delhi, 1 Rabiul Awwal 1438/14 December 2016 (MINA) – Indonesian President Joko Widodo, better known by his nickname Jokowi, arrived at Mehrabad International Airport, Tehran, Iran, on Tuesday around 04:20 pm local time or at 07:50 pm of the Western Indonesian Time after leaving India.

The president and First Lady Iriana as well as the presidential entourage – aboard the Presidential Aircraft Indonesia-1 for three hours and 30 minutes after leaving the Palam Air Force Base in New Delhi, India – were greeted by cold weather in Tehran.

On arrival, President Jokowi and First Lady Iriana were welcomed by the Director General of the Iranian Presidential Protocol MS Abdollahi and Indonesian ambassador to Iran Octavino Alimudin.

At the airport, the president and the first lady received a bunch of flowers from two Iranian youths and were welcomed by ICT Minister Mahmoud Vaezi.

After inspecting the guard of honor, the president and the first lady as well as the entourage proceeded to the hotel.

The president will begin his official visit to Iran on Wednesday.

Jokowi is scheduled to hold meetings with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and Supreme Leader (the Supreme Leader) Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khameinei.

The president will also hold meetings with staff of the Indonesian Embassy and the Indonesian community in Tehran before returning to the country on Wednesday evening. (T/R07/R01)
