Mosul, 18 Jumadil Akhir 1437/27 March 2016 (MINA) – The Kurdish Peshmerga forces shot down a drone from the Islamic State (ISIL/Daesh) on Friday evening near the Keske Junction on the Mosul frontline.

Peshmerga forces managed to shoot down a aircraft used by Daesh (ISIL) to observe and photograph Peshmerga positions,” Islam Chali, a Peshmerga officer told ARA News quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA).

The drone was used by ISIL to carry out surveillance on Peshmerga positions.

The Islamic State uses surveillance drones bought at the black market to spy on “enemy” positions.

Moreover, the ISIS group uses drone footage in their  videos against their enemies.

When the Islamic State attacked the Kurdish city of Kobane in northern Syria they published drone footage to show their various suicide attacks in the city.

The Kurdish Peshmerga recaptured the strategic junction of Keske from ISIL in January 2015, cutting off one of the main supply lines between the ISIL strongholds of Mosul and Raqqa. (T/P001/R04)
