Gaza, 10 Rajab 1436/29 April 2015 (MINA) – The deputy head of the Hamas political bureau has insisted that Palestinian blood will not be shed in vain as he stressed the unity of the land of Palestine.

Ismail Haniyeh made his comments during a phone call with the family of Mahmoud Abu Jheisheh, the 21-year-old who was killed by Israeli security forces in Hebron, on Saturday.

He had earlier stabbed an Israeli occupation soldier near the Ibrahimi Mosque in the city, Middle East Monitor (MEMO) quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting.

Although he is living under an Israeli-led siege in the Gaza Strip, along with almost 2 million other Palestinians,

Haniyeh was elected as prime minister of both Gaza and the occupied West Bank in free and fair elections in 2006.

The election result was rejected by Israel, the US and EU, despite their insistence on the democratic process taking place.

Nevertheless, as his comments illustrate, Ismail Haniyeh and Hamas are still committed to work for the benefit of all of Palestine, and all Palestinians, not just one section of the occupied territories. (T/P002/R04)
