PALESTINE ENVOY WARNS UN SECURITY COUNCIL
New York (The UN), 21 Ramadhan 1435 / 19 July 2014 (MINA) – The Palestinian envoy to the United Nations says he will resort to the international judicial bodies if the world body fails to condemn Israel’s crimes in the besieged Gaza Strip.
At a Friday UN Security Council meeting on Israeli aggression, Riyad Mansour accused Tel Aviv of causing “yet another disaster” in Gaza.
Gazans will have to “turn to the judicial bodies of the United Nations and the international system,” said the Palestinian envoy, Press TV quoted by Mi’raj News Agency (MINA) as reporting, Saturday.
“This savage Israeli aggression cannot be justified by any means. It is not ‘self-defense’ — it is a vengeful military aggression intentionally planned and perpetrated by the occupying power against the civilian population under its occupation,” he noted.
Mansour read out the names of those killed in the past week, adding that there were 62 children, 24 women and 17 elderly among the dead since Israel started the offensive in early July.
He called on the 15-member world body to adopt a resolution condemning the Israeli attack.
Earlier in the day, an Israeli assault left all eight members of a Gazan family dead.
Nearly 300 people have been killed in the latest round of Israeli aggression against the coastal enclave.
Israeli warplanes have been carrying out incessant airstrikes against Gaza since July 8. Early on Thursday, thousands of Israeli soldiers launched a ground invasion into the densely-populated strip. (T/E01/IR)
