PALESTINE DISCUSSES PROPOSED ISRAELI SUSPENSION FROM FIFA WITH THE ARAB LEAGUE
Ramallah, 20 Jumadil Akhir 1436/9 April 2015 (MINA) – The head of the Palestinian Football Association, Jibril Rajoub, has held discussions with the secretary general of the Arab League (AL), Nabil El-Araby, regarding ways for the AL to support Palestine’s draft resolution to suspend Israel’s membership from FIFA.
The meeting, which was held at the Arab League headquarters on Tuesday, tackled in detail the Palestinian draft resolution that was submitted to the FIFA Congress for voting next May.
The draft resolution stipulates the suspension of Israel’s membership at FIFA for its systematic violations against Palestinian sports, Middle East Monitor (MEMO) quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting.
To mobilise support for the draft resolution, a national Palestinian committee was formed in coordination with the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, the Union for Arab Football Associations, the Arab Council of Ministers of Youth and Sports, and the Arab League.
The Palestinians are seeking the support of the largest number of friendly countries for the draft resolution.
The meeting was attended by the Palestinian ambassador in Egypt, who is also Palestine’s permanent representative in the Arab League, Jamal Shobaki.(T/P002/P3)
