OBAMA REPEATEDLY HECKLED OVER IMMIGRATION POLICY
Washington, 3 Shafar 1436H/26 November 2014M (MINA) – US President Barack Obama has been interrupted by at least four hecklers, all of them women, during a speech about his administration’s immigration policy.
On Tuesday, the president was speaking about his decision to provide deportation relief to millions of undocumented immigrants at the Copernicus Center in Chicago, Illinois, when he was repeatedly interrupted, Press TV quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting, Wesnesday.
Obama said criminals should be a target of deportations rather than working parents.
“Sorry Mr. President, but that has been a lie. You have deported families,” shouted a heckler, with another chanting, “Not one more,” and “Stop deportations.” Obama tried to silence the hecklers as they continued yelling.
“You’re absolutely right that there have been significant numbers of deportations. That’s true. But what you’re not paying attention to is the fact that I just took an action to change the law,” responded the president
During a televised primetime address on Thursday, Obama unveiled a plan to reform the immigration system by issuing an executive order despite outrage expressed by many Republicans against his use of executive power rather than the usual congressional legislative process.
The new plan would temporarily protect up to 5 million undocumented immigrants from deportation, while it allows undocumented parents with children living in the US legally to qualify for work permits. (T/P002/P3)
