Rabat, 19 Dzulqa’dah 1436/3 September 2015 (MINA) – Morocco will celebrate Eid al-Adha (the Feast of Sacrifice) on September 24, which will coincide with the 10th day of the Islamic month of Dhu al-Hijjah, 1436 of Al Hegira, according to astronomical calculations, according to Media24.

According to the calculations provided by Kadiri Samir, President of the Astronomical Observatory Ribat Al Fath in Rabat, the first day of the month of Dhu al-Hijjah will begin on Monday, September 14, 2015.

Taking into account other astronomical conditions, the crescent moon should not be visible on the northern half of Morocco, but it will be visible in the southern region of Agadir on September 14.

Other Arab countries are likely to celebrate Eid al-Adha on September 23, Morocco World News quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting.

Eid al-Adha is an important religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide. It honors the willingness of prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his first-born son Ismail as an act of submission to Allah’s (God’s) command. Moments before the sacrifice, Allah intervened to provide Ibrahim with a lamb to sacrifice instead.

During Eid al-Adha, Muslims perform certain services along with the Eid prayers, such as symbolically sacrifice a sheep, a cow, a goat or a camel, in the name of Allah.

Though the sacrifice is not an obligatory practice in all Muslim groups, most families save enough money to buy a lamb or goat to celebrate the feast and show obedience to God.(T/R05/R03)
