Malaysia Authority Gives Remissions for Five Aceh Fishermen

Banda Aceh, MINA – There are  five fishermen from Manyak Panyed, Aceh Tamiang Regency, Aceh who were detained by the Malaysian Authority since July 12, 2018, finally received a reduction in sentence or remission for three months.

“On October 31, 2018, Malaysian Authority sentenced five Acehnese fishermen to five months of imprisonment on charges of territorial sea violations,” said Secretary of the Aceh Laot Commander, Miftachhuddin Cut Adek, Friday.

The five fishermen are Syamsul Bahri (42), M Sakbani (24), Aji Saputra (20), Syahrul Rizal Yahya (38) and Sunaryo (40).

“Maybe they will be free at the end of January or early February 2019, just pray that they will be safe,” said Miftachhuddin.

The Kedah District Court of Malaysia on October 31, 2018 has sentenced a fine of 200 thousands Ringgit to Samsul Bahri.

Because he was unable to pay the fine, the five Acehnese fishermen were subjected to six months’ imprisonment law.

On July 11, 2018, the KM Wulandari ship weighed, 7 grose tonnage along with five fishermen going to sea and fishing at the State of Indonesia-Malaysia border.

Then, on July 12, 2018 the five Acehnese fishermen and their ships were captured by the Malaysian King Sea Patrol Boat in Batu Putih, the country was as attractive and then they were taken to a place of detention in the Langkawi Islands. (T/Sj/P2)
