Issues of concern to be discussed during the bilateral meeting between the two presidents are efforts to improve economic cooperation, as Indonesia is keen to expand access for its products in the Lithuanian market.

“Cooperation in renewable energy and energy conservation as well as agriculture and transportation will also be prioritized during the discussion,” Antara News quoted Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson Arrmanatha Nasir as informing reporters on Friday.

Currently, two agreements on renewable energy and transportation are expected to be finalized and would hopefully be signed by the time President Grybauskaite arrives in the country.

According to Nasir, Lithuania is known for its excellence in the field of renewable energy, particularly for the development of biomass and biofuels.

“Thus, we are expecting to build cooperation for the transfer of technology,” he noted.

Although the trade value between Indonesia and Lithuania is considered to be low, with about US$38 million in 2016, but it has huge potential to increase.

In the context of tourism, the number of Lithuanian tourists visiting Indonesia has been steadily increasing from 3,739 people in 2015 to 5,521 in 2016. (T/RS5/RS1)
