Semarang, 17 Rabiul Akhir 1437/27 January 2016 (MINA) – President Joko Widodo has said Indonesia is a key development partner of East Timor as well as nearby friend and neighbor, and brother because it is adjacent to Indonesia’s  East Nusa Tenggara Province.

“Both our nations are united and bound by geographic proximity and culture,” said President Jokowi at the luncheon at Space Salao China, Palacio Presidencial, Dili, East Timor on Tuesday, Antara News quoted Presidential spokesman Ari Dwipayana as saying here on Tuesday.

President Joko Widodo who is popurlarly known as Jokowi said both countries feel more solid relations between the two countries

“I want to reiterate the commitment of Indonesia as a key partner in the development of Timor-Leste and to enhance
cooperation in various fields,” the president said.

The President was grateful for the conferment of The Grand Collar of Order of Timor Leste, the country’s highest
decorations, by Timor Leste President Matan Ruak, Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) quoted Antara News as reporting.

“It is an honor for me. This award is a great responsibility for me in maintaining friendships, brotherhood and close
cooperation mutually beneficial for both countries Indonesia and Timor Leste,” said the President.

The President stated that he and First Lady happy Iriana Widodo arrived in Dili East Timor on an official visit to meet the invitation of President Taur Matan Ruak.
