Jakarta Election Should be A Fair Competition

Jakarta, 20 Rajab 1438/17 April 2017 (MINA)  – The Propagation Commission Chairman of Indonesia’s Ulema Council, KH Cholil Nafis, expected the Jakarta gubernatorial election on Wednesday will be a fair competition and free of fraud  nor political money.

“I expect the election can be a fair competition among the two candidates. Jakarta citizens can choose the best person to lead the city,”  he said in a statement, Monday, local media Republika reported.

He called on people of Jakarta to accept gracefully whoever wins the battle, and expressed his hope for the elected governor to bring goodness for  the capital city.

“That is our obligation, to participate the election honestly, democratically and peacefully without any anarchy and riot,” he explained.

Therefore, he hoped things that are considered breaking the law can be resolves through the right track with the course of justice in Indonesia. Whoever, the winner means  the best for the city, he believed.

Considering the appeal related to come to Jakarta during the election, he said it is needless if only to be a witness. The elections of Jakarta has been handled by the committee. “They have prepared all the necessary tools,” he said.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) ensured the Jakarta second round election which will be held on Wednesday, April 19th, 2017 will run safely.

“I already had ordered all state officials, military and police officer to ensure smooth operation and security during the election,” said Jokowi at the Presidential Palace on Monday.

For security reason, police have banned  all mass gatherings planned to coincide with the election.  They said 13,034 polling stations will be secured across the capital on election day.(T/P2/RE1)
