Jerusalem, MINA – Israeli authorities have imposed a six-month ban on Sheikh Muhammad Hussein, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and Palestine, preventing him from entering Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem.
According to Anadolu Agency on Wednesday, the decision follows an earlier eight-day ban issued after Hussein condemned Israel’s “starvation policy” in Gaza during a July 25 sermon.
Hussein was kidnapped by Israeli police on the same day as his sermon and later summoned on July 27, receiving an initial one-week ban before the extended restriction was announced.
Al-Aqsa Mosque, Islam’s third-holiest site, has been a focal point of tensions between Palestinians and Israeli authorities. Israel occupied East Jerusalem in 1967 and later annexed it in 1980, a move not recognized internationally.
