INDONESIAN MINIMARKETS SELLS TRUMPETS OUT OF AL QURAN COVER

Central Java, 17 Rabi’ul Awwal 1437/28 December 2015 (MINA) – At least 21 alfamart minimarkets in Kendal, Central Java province, Indonesia, are selling hundreds of new year trumpets made of the cover of Al-quran.

According to an information from the police, on sunday (27/2), a Nahdatul Ulama (NU) figure, Kyai Kresno Abrory from Kendal, saw the writing that says ‘Republic of Indonesian Ministry of Religion 2013″ and Arabic calligraphy which contains verses of the holy book on the trumpets were sold in a minimarket.

Kendal police were swiftly scrambled to the city and raided a number of minimarkets looking for similar cases.

“We are looking into it, hopefully it could conclude soon,” said Chief Police of Central Java region, Nur Ali when confirmed by journalists on monday (28/12). Detiknews.com reported.

The trumpets priced at Rp3500 were sent from a depot in Semarang, capital of Central Java.

According to a local source who informed Miraj Islamic News Agency (MINA) on Monday, the foreclosure of the trumpets which were reported to be manufactures in Wonogiri, was held from Kendal to Pekalongan, Central Java province. (L/P001/NMT)
