Indonesia – Qatar Signs Five MoUs

Bogor, MINA – Bogor, MINA – Indonesian President Joko Widodo, popularly known by his nickname Jokowi and Emir Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani signed five memoranda of understanding (MoU) at the Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java, Wednesday (18/10).

“The MoUs are among others in the formation of joint commission, air transportation, education, youth and sports and health,” the President said, according to a press release issued by the Indonesian Cabinet Secretariat and quoted by MINA.

On the occasion, the Emir of Qatar brought a large business delegation.
“Emir Al Thani’s visit is also accompanied by a huge business delegation and His Excellency Emir Al Thani and I have discussed efforts to strengthen cooperation in infrastructure and tourism,” said President Jokowi.

Meanwhile, he said, Indonesia will continue to invite Qatar to invest in Indonesia. The ongoing investment cooperation includes the Nitrus Power project at PT Paiton Energy worth 1.3 billion US dollars and with PT Pembangkit Jawa Bali for the building of the Gas and Steam Power Plant (PLTGU) Sumbagut worth 1 billion US dollars.

About Indonesian citizens in Qatar, President Jokowi also said that there are about 30 thousand Indonesian people who contribute to the development in Qatar.

President Jokowi also added that the two countries have agreed to strengthen cooperation and maintain the unity of the ummah to face the various challenges that exist together.

“This visit is very important because it coincides with 41 years of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Indonesia and Qatar,” he said. (T/R04/RS3/RS5)
