INDONESIA EAST NUSA TENGGARA TO ESTABLISH SEAWEED PROCESSING FACTORIES
Kupang, 10 Dzulqo’dah 1436/25 August 2015 (MINA) – The government of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) province planned to build three seaweed processing factories in a separate location to accommodate the production of farmers in all regions of the archipelago.
“The Three factories will be built in the Industrial Area of Bolok, Sulamu and Lembata district,” said the head of Marine and Fisheries Department, East Nusa Tenggara Province Abraham Maulaka, on Tuesday. Antaranews quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting.
According to him, the three factories will be built in 2016, the budget is in process. If the construction run well, NTT province will have four processing seaweed plant, one factory has been existing in East Sumba.
He pointed out, the construction can help cultivators to expand their products. “So far, the price of seaweed in NTT is fluctuative because it is controlled by middlemen,” he said.
According to him, the construction of the plants is expected to connect link between the cultivation, processing, and marketing. The three aspects is integrated in the plant.
People’s of Republic of China, and Singapore buy Indonesia seaweed with total trade contract of $ 58 million in 2015.
“The world recognizes the quality of Indonesian seaweed. Indonesia could become a major supplier of seaweed world with a share of 26.50 percent of the total $ 1.09 billion in global demand,” said the Director General of National Export Development Ministry of Trade , Nus Nuzulia Isaac. (T/P008/R03)
