Indonesia Consulate General in Jeddah Promotes “Rendang” in Saudi
Jeddah, MINA – Indonesian Consul General of Jeddah, Dr. Hery M. Saripudin and Deputy Mayor of Payakumbuh, Erwin Yunaz, accompanied by the Economic Consul of the Consulate General in Jeddah, Agus Muktamar, witnessed the signing of a business agreement between Rendang Minang Ltd and Ibrahim Abdo J. Talaili.
The signing of the agreement was held to coincide with the closing of an exhibition of various Hajj and Umrah products at the Nusantara Hall Building of the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Jeddah on Saturday, according to a release received by MINA on Tuesday.
This agreement is a manifestation of the support of the Indonesian Consulate General in Jeddah to try to globalize Rendang as Indonesian food icon and strengthen Payakumbuh as the City of Rendang.
The exhibition titled Hajj and Umrah Exhibition took place from 24-26 January 2019. The representatives of Payakumbuh City became one of 11 producers from Indonesia who participated in the exhibition.
Since 2014, one of the unique cuisines of West Sumatera is Rendang that has been named the most delicious food in the world.
Payakumbuh City Government, West Sumatra also targets Saudi Arabia as one of the international markets for Payakumbuh typical Rendang products.
Initially, the production of Rendang in Payakumbuh has been above 1 ton per day, and the potential to be increased. Payakumbuh is also supported as a center for cattle farming and has a large capacity abattoir.
Now, the City of Payakumbuh has 37 Small and Medium Industries rendang that have been producing to realize the branding of Payakumbuh City of Rendang.
The average production of each IKM is able to produce 31 Kg of rendang per day if calculated it can produce 1,147 Kg in one day. (TR/Sj/P2)
