At the UNHRC, Indonesia Reaffirms Support for Palestine

Geneva, MINA – Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono met with Palestinian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Varsen Aghabekian, on the sidelines of the 58th Session of the UN Human Rights Council’s High-Level Segment in Geneva, Switzerland on Monday.

Minister Sugiono stated that Indonesia is closely following the developments in Palestine, including Gaza.

“Indonesia strongly opposes the forced relocation of Palestinians from Gaza and supports their right to remain in their homeland,” said the Minister.

He also informed that the Indonesian government has not received any detailed, direct information about plans for the relocation of Palestinians.

“Any such plan must receive voluntary consent from all parties involved, including Palestine,” he added.

Minister Aghabekian expressed his appreciation for Indonesia’s strong support for Palestine, particularly regarding the issue of forced relocation from Gaza.

Both Ministers also discussed efforts for Gaza’s reconstruction and explored the possibility of a bilateral meeting at the Head of State or Government level.

Minister Sugiono reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to continue advocating for peace in Palestine and for Palestinian independence through a two-state solution.

The issue of Palestine also received attention during this session of the UN Human Rights Council. As a member of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Indonesia has been actively advancing several resolutions on Palestine at the 58th Session of the UN Human Rights Council. []
